Moving to a new country (or even just a new home) can be an exciting but sometimes challenging task. That said, with the proper planning and research your move will not only become easily manageable but can be an enjoyable experience as well.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to find a great new home here in Japan!
Understand your specific needs such as location, parking and what your move in and monthly budget is. Initial costs will likely be different than what you’re accustomed to.
You can read more information about that
HERE.
It’s important to find reputable agent (that’s me!) that you can trust. Also, a bi-lingual agent (that’s us as well!) is important to have if don’t speak the language. Here at
Interlink, we ensure that our customers understand everything that’s happening throughout the entire process and answer any questions along the way. We also assist with problems or questions even after you have moved in.
Work with your agent to find properties in the area you’re looking at. Things to consider are location, distance from public transport, if you need parking, an apartment that allows pets, school locations, etc... Being realistic with your wanted location, size of apartment and budget is also important. We know the Aichi area well and can assist you and making sure your budget and needs fit.
Once you decided on some properties you’re interested in, we will take you to the apartments to view them. Make sure you’re taking notes, photos and asking questions about the apartment and the surrounding area. You can view some examples of properties on our website
japanhomefinder.com.
Here is one such
EXAMPLE.
Once you have found an apartment you want to move into, we will then get you an initial cost sheet (this would be the amount you’ll need to pay upfront before moving in) and apply for it. You may need to have a guarantor and may have to provide some of the following information: Proof of income, residence card, 1 or 2 references and other personal information. This process can take about 2 weeks, but in some cases, we can get pre-approval and have an apartment ready to move in as soon as you arrive to Japan.
(Inquire for more details about this.)
Once you’re approved, we will then contract the apartment for you. You will sit down with one of our licensed realtors and they will explain the entire contract in English to make sure you understand all of the details. Contracts are usually for at least one year and many of them can be cancelled with one months’ notice. Contracts may vary from apartment to apartment and also vary based on the area of Japan.
Once you have signed the contract and made your initial payment, it’s time to get your keys and move in. You’ll still need to setup your utilities and other services, but this is also something that we can assist with.
With enough preparation and knowing what to expect when moving to Japan, finding a new home here can be an exciting adventure. Give us a call or an email with any questions you might have. We’ll be sure to understand your needs, gather the right information and find you the apartment that makes you happy. At Interlink we are dedicated to finding you a place to call home!!
